
In late July 1999, MSN Messenger was released into the wild, a few years ahead of its time. Back in those days, the average PC user didn't have any clue on what's what with this "instant messaging" thing. In the meantime, MSN Messenger became a huge success, going over the 150 million active users per month mark, turning Microsoft's offspring into one of the most widely used Internet-based apps ever.
